Tejomoyee Ma

Tejomoyee Ma was born on May 15th, 1984 in Kolkata city. She came to know of Bhagavan through her father who was already a devotee. One day in the year 2000, Swami Sankarananda and Swami Nirgunananda came to their house and gave a Vedanta lecture. They explained it in such logical terms that it drew Tejomoyee Ma’s attention. She was a science student at the time and loved logic. She shied away from religion prior to this, assuming it required blind faith. Since that day, Tejomoyee Ma began to visit Bhagavan frequently. She was drawn to his personality of love, truth and transparency. Bhagavan always did what He said, and said what He did. It impressed her.

In 2001 Tejomoyee Ma visited the IVS ashram in Varanasi, and was so deeply moved by the devotion and simple living of the monks there, that coming back to Bhagavan, she wanted to become a monastic as well. But Bhagavan insisted that she finish her school life first, and then when the time is right He will give her sannyasini initiation.  Tejomoyee Ma did just said, and even worked as a computer teacher for some time after.

In January 2004, Tejomoyee Ma had her first spiritual realization. And in April that year, Bhagavan initiated Tejomoyee Ma into spiritual life (diksha). In the year 2010, Bhagavan initiated Tejomoyee Ma into a sannyasini (nun). Today (2018) Tejomoyee Ma lives and helps operate the Matreiyi Bhavan in Kolkata (a women’s ashram). She is the joint-General Secretary of the female wing, IVS.
